Using Export-AutoDiscoverConfig in a Forest Resource environments.. Does it work?

Share this:

Hello folks,

I’ve been looking at some Microsoft forums and I caught some erros about Export-AutoDiscoverConfig, some erros like this one:

Export-AutoDiscoverConfig: Active Directory operation failed on <remote-account-forest-dc>. This error is not retriable. Additional information: The parameter is incorrect. Active directory response: 00000057: LdapErr: DSID-0C090B38, comment: Error in attribute conversion operation, data 0, vece At line:1 char:26

Actually, there is no problem with the export-AutoDiscoverConfig cmdlet, the matter is we must use it on Cross-Forest organization environment, if you have Account Forest Resources you can not use this cmdlet to do that. A good way is to configure your DNS resolution in the Account Forest to resolve the Autodiscover entry in the Resource Forest, of course your certificates must be working between two forest as well.

Even, in a simple scenario we must change some settings, such as: configure the mail attribute from Account Forest mail users to receive the smtp address that matches with the Resource Forest, but why? Because we need that attribute in the Account Forest because Outlook 2007 automatic settings, when we have this attribute set, Outlook 2007 completes the information in the First Screen and in its second step will be locate by the following address autodiscover.contoso.com.
