How to upgrade your existent Exchange Server 2013 to CU3 using command-line

In the previous article we upgrade the first member of a DAG to Cumulative Update 3 using the graphical user interface, you can check the Tutorial out at: http://ITPROCentral.com/upgrade-existent-exchange-server-2013-cu3/

In this Tutorial we are going to deploy the remaining node but using the command-line interface. The process to put and remove the server in maintenance mode is the same applied on the previous article.

First of all, let’s download and extract the Cumulative Update 3 (CU3) from http://aka.ms/E15RTMCU3 to a folder called CU3 located on the C: drive of the server. After that, let’s open the Command Prompt (Admin).

Run the following command to upgrade the existent server and go for a coffee because that process will take a while.

Setup /Mode:Upgrade /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

In the figure below we can see the entire process to upgrade do Cumulative Update 3.

After finishing the upgrade process we can go to Exchange Management Shell and we should have both of our servers (BsAEX01 was upgraded yesterday in the previous Tutorial) running the CU3.
