Share this:

In this Tutorial we are going over the process to replace your existent Windows Server 2016 TP3 version for the new TP4. After reading the release notes of the new version and getting acquainted with the new features, the next step is to download the new version from Microsoft and upgrade the existent servers to the latest bits.

Solution

Since the Windows Server 2016 is not intended for production environment, we will use a simple scenario in this Tutorial, we have an existent Windows Server 2016 TP3 running, and we downloaded and mounted the Windows Server 2016 TP4. After mounting the new media (ISO file) we double click on the setup.exe. The first page of the wizard is listed below, let’s select Download and install updates (recommended).

In the Select Image page. We can install with Desktop Experience (GUI) or Server Core. For this Tutorial we will be selecting the Desktop Experience option.

In the License terms page. If you are okay with the license terms, click on Accept.

In the page Choose what to keep. The administrator has the option to keep personal files and apps, since we are in a LAB environment we will select Nothing which means that is going to be a brand new installation on top of the current version.

In the page Ready to install. A summary of the two decisions made so far will be displayed, click on Install to start the installation process.

The process may require several restarts of the server, and the administrator has just wait for the completion of the installation process.
